The Mental Health Project Team at the Division of Public Policy, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, warmly invites Nepalese families to join us for "Empowering Nepalese Families: A Psychoeducation Series on Family Wellness and Parenting." Designed with cultural sensitivity in mind, this series aims to empower and educate Nepalese families through a thoughtful mix of informative and participatory activities.

Program Structure:

This four-week program is meticulously designed to cater to the unique cultural experiences and needs of Nepalese families. Each session is thoughtfully structured into two segments.

 

The target participants for this program are the Nepalese families residing at Queen's Hill Estate.

Sessions Objectives:

Week 1: Understanding Mental Health and Cultivating Family Harmony

Date & Time: 6 March 2024 (Tuesday) 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

 

Lecture: The team commences with a survey on family relationships, followed by a lecture introducing mental health basics, customized to the cultural perspectives of our participants.

 

Interactive Session: Guided discussions and interactive role-plays will enable families to explore these concepts, relating them to their personal experiences.

 

Week 2: Fostering Effective Family Communication

Date & Time: 12 March 2024 (Tuesday), 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

 

Lecture: The team will focus on emotional intelligence and communication within the family, offering strategies to enhance understanding and manage emotions.

 

Interactive Session: Participants will engage in activities specifically designed to practice these communication skills in scenarios reflective of their daily lives.

 

Week 3: Relationship Management & Parenting Strategies

Date & Time: 19 March 2024 (Tuesday), 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

 

Lecture: The session will delve into parenting strategies, addressing common challenges and milestones in child development, fostering positive parent-child relationships.

 

Interactive Session: Through role-playing and discussions, families will be able to apply new strategies and share insights in a supportive setting.

 

Week 4: Embracing Resilience and Positive Psychology

Date & Time: 26 March 2024 (Tuesday), 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

 

Lecture: In the final session, the team equips families with resilience-building techniques and positive psychology principles to enhance mental well-being.

 

Interactive Session: To conclude the series, participants will develop a personalized Family Wellness Plan, utilizing the series' teachings to maintain family harmony and resilience.
