Campus Tour for Indian Senior Citizens
A Day of Nostalgia and Reimbursement
The Mental Health Project Team at the Division of Public Policy, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is delighted to share that we successfully hosted a campus tour for a group of Indian senior citizens (65+) on November 9, 2023. This activity was filled with nostalgia, laughter, insightful conversations, and shared learning experiences, reflecting the ethos of our project and the spirit of inter-cultural and inter-generational understanding.
Our senior citizens had the opportunity to explore the picturesque seafront, the tranquil campus park, and various other areas of our beautiful campus. The serene ambiance of the seafront and the park provided a peaceful and soothing experience, particularly poignant for many of our visitors, who were revisiting a university setting after several decades.
One significant highlight of the day was a tea gathering held in a classroom setting. Amid the familiar backdrop of desks, our guests were given a chance to reminisce about their student days, sparking a palpable sense of nostalgia. The room buzzed with their shared tales from youth, a melange of laughter-inducing anecdotes and wisdom-filled narratives.
During the tea gathering, we had the unique opportunity to listen to their life stories. It was a humbling experience to hear about the challenges, hardships, victories, and defining moments that have shaped their lives was truly humbling. Our visitors shared valuable insights into how acknowledging and embracing their past experiences, both positive and negative, have contributed to their lives.
The tour ended on a high note, filled with smiles, heartfelt goodbyes, and the anticipation of more such enriching experiences. Our team is grateful for the chance to host this event and looks forward to arranging more such sessions in the future. We believe these interactions not only foster intercultural and intergenerational understanding but also contribute to the wellbeing of our senior citizens community.
