RTHK's Community Involvement Broadcasting Service (CIBS) “The Age of Social Innovators 2.0” featured an interview with Chan Ying-tung Cassy, Project Manager at the Department of Public Policy of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, on July 12, 2024.
The discussion focused on the mental health challenges faced by ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, shedding light on both the growing awareness of these issues and the significant gaps in resources available to these communities.

During the interview, Chan mentioned growing awareness of mental health issues in Hong Kong over recent years. However, she emphasized that significant misunderstandings and a lack of resources remain prevalent among ethnic minority groups.
Chan pointed out that the majority of existing mental health services are primarily designed for the Chinese community, leaving non-Chinese ethnic minorities largely underserved.

"Although ethnic minorities make up less than 10% of Hong Kong's population, they encompass a variety of languages and cultures," Chan explained. This diversity means that general services may not adequately meet their needs, often leading to issues such as inaccurate translations and community concerns.
By highlighting the unique needs of these communities, Chan aims to enhance trust among ethnic minority groups in Hong Kong's social welfare organizations, ultimately reducing the barriers they face in accessing mental health services.
