Mummy Papa Club (65+)
The Mummy PaPa Club (65+), officially titled 'Supporting Ethnic Minority Elderly with Mental Health Needs', is a two-year project running from May 2023 to May 2025. It is led by the Division of Public Policy at HKUST and is supported by the Mental Health Initiatives Funding Scheme (Phase 2) of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health.
This project aims to support and improve the mental well-being of ethnic minority elderly in Hong Kong. This project involves two consecutive evidence-based activities for the identified elderly participants:
Celebrate Your Life Story with Us
This program integrates reminiscence therapy, reciprocal giving, and storytelling to encourage participants to share their life experiences with empathetic listeners. A total of 25 group-sharing sessions will be conducted, aiming to address gaps in existing mental health support for the elderly population.
Align your body, mind, and soul with Tai Chi Group sessions
In collaboration with certified professional Tai Chi service providers, we will organize monthly Tai Chi sessions to promote healthy physical exercises, social interaction, and cross-cultural appreciation. Tai Chi has been shown to help alleviate depression and anxiety, and expose participants to Chinese culture and traditional Chinese medicine therapies.
We aim to empower ethnic minority elderly in Hong Kong and support their mental well-being. Through the sharing of life stories and engaging in Tai Chi exercises, we hope to create a positive impact on their lives and foster stronger connection.
