Family Happiness Club -
Family Fun & Growth: Better Family
The Family Happiness Club, officially titled 'Strengthening Family Relationships for Hong Kong’s Ethnic Minority Communities in the Aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic', is a two-year project running from May 2023 to May 2025. It is led by the Division of Public Policy at HKUST and is supported by the Mental Health Initiatives Funding Scheme (Phase 2) of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health.
We offer a comprehensive range of services and activities designed to support and strengthen ethnic minority families in Hong Kong. Our goal is to create a safe space where intervention is possible, and to provide training and resources that help families improve their well-being and relationships.
Unlock Your Heart
Our "Speak Out Family" program, adapted from the UK-based program, provides a safe space for family members to anonymously share their thoughts, experiences, and perspectives on their relationships with each other. This program is conducted through an online survey platform and face-to-face dialogue sessions with our project staff. The collected narratives help inform the design of our subsequent activities and tailor the learning content to address the specific challenges faced by participating families.
Family Bonding Workshops
Based on successful psychoeducation programs implemented overseas, our workshops tailored training sessions for ethnic minority parents. Delivered by experienced trainers with backgrounds in clinical psychology, educational psychology, and social work, these sessions aim to improve family relationships and overall well-being.
Our training program covers topics such as parental training, effective communication, conflict management, and positive psychology. We combine short, focused lectures with interactive group discussions, allowing participants to exchange ideas and form peer support groups. The training sessions are designed to address the unique mental health issues and family challenges identified through the "Unlock Your Heart" activity.
Mini Family Day – Free Mindfulness-Based Activities
Our "Mini Family Day" features evidence-based mindfulness activities designed to complement the insights gained from the "Training for Strengthening Family Relationships" sessions. These activities aim to minimize emotional distress and improve inter-family harmony and relationships in a family setting.
Join us in our mission to empower ethnic minority families in Hong Kong and provide the necessary support for better mental well-being and stronger family bonds.
